Time flies when you are having a great time and when you're with usually the one you love. Whilst the years go by, perhaps your anniversaries begin to sneak through to you, with you and your loved one seemingly always ending up venturing out to dinner again. Or probably the big day comes and goes, and you never do some thing because you are on a restricted budget and can't think of something to do that is celebratory, memorable, and won't cost a fortune. (Sure, a visit to your wine country sounds perfect; but could it be worth refinancing your house and mortgage to finance this?)

Well, luckily, you may be both romantic and financially smart. Listed below are 5 inexpensive and exciting new ways to celebrate your anniversary.

1. Just Be Together

Take your day removed from work, switch off the mobile phone, stop checking your email, and just spend some quality time together and save money. Keep it simple and remove yourselves from your busy everyday lives. Celebrate your daily life together because that is what your anniversary is all about.

2. Match Your Gift with Your Anniversary Year

If that is your fifth anniversary, give five roses. If this really is your 10th anniversary, give a 10-minute massage. Be thoughtful and fun. Create a game from it, and see who will appear with the most creative number-themed gift.

3. Give Thoughtful Gifts

For every anniversary year, you can find traditional gifts that you could give. Like, the gift for the first year is traditionally paper. Consider giving your better half stationery you've customized, a guide, a love letter, or whatever else associated with paper. It doesn't need to be expensive, just thoughtful. There's also a contemporary anniversary gift for each year. Like, for the fourth anniversary, the modern gift is appliances, which is actually a lot cheaper than a pricey bit of technology. If you're thinking about what these gifts are, here is a handy list of traditional and modern anniversary gifts by year.

4. Watch Your Wedding Video

I don't think I've ever watched my wedding video. Honestly, I am not even sure where it is. But what's the idea of getting a video made if you're not going to view it? Your anniversary is a great opportunity to consider that special day, so pull out that wedding DVD and watch highlights together. If you don't have one, perhaps you've a video of a vacation you took or another memorable occasion. If not, look throughout your wedding album or pictures that you have taken during your years together.

5. Get Crafty

If you should be feeling only a little artsy, go decorate some pottery for each other (most towns have a DIY pottery studio or two). Or make something together, like a photo album or scrapbook of the previous year's events.
